Ian's Record Store Day 2016 Picks!

Ian's Record Store Day 2016 Picks!

Record Store Day is April 16, so we've asked our staff to pick their favorite RSD titles for this year...maybe you'll add some to your list? Here are Ian's top picks!

Blaze Foley - Duct Tape Messiah Soundtrack

The soundtrack to the documentary on Townes Van Zandt, for which his friend Blaze Foley did all of the music. Foley may not have the same name recognition, but he is a phenomenal songwriter in his own right. This RSD release features covers and unreleased songs over the course of Foley's life.

13th Floor Elevators - You're Gonna Miss Me/Tried to Hide 7"

Various Artists - Hallucinations: Psychedelic Pop Nuggets 2X LP

Few things are more fun than rare psychedelic compilations. Throw in a few pop nuggets and I am sold.

Allen Toussaint - Live In Philadelphia 1975 LP

We've lost a lot of legends the last two years or so and Allen Toussaint is certainly among them. Hearing his genius live in some of his prime years will be exciting. A little New Orleans jazz is good for the soul.

Various Artists - The Other Side of Sun: Sun Records Curated by RSD, Volume 3 LP

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Kiss My Amps, Vol. 2 LP

Everyone knows Tom Petty's greatest hits, and nearly everyone likes Tom Petty's greatest hits. His deep cuts provide a good look into what Tom Petty is all about though. Also, the Heartbreakers bring it live and guitarist Mike Campbell gets to shine.

J Dilla - The Diary

"New" J Dilla. Dilla is gold and whatever Dilla is a part of, I want to hear.
