New Release Round-Up 07-15-16
JEFF BECK - Loud Hailer - Rhino
Loud Hailer, legendary guitarist Jeff Beck's first studio album in six years, combines fluid fretwork with topical lyrics to make a powerful statement about everything from the love of power to the power of love. Loud Hailer, which is another name for a megaphone, is a suitable moniker for an album that isn't shy about speaking its mind. The two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer explains, "I really wanted to make a statement about some of the nasty things I see going on in the world today, and I loved the idea of being at a rally and using this loud device to shout my point of view." To help him write the 11 tracks on Loud Hailer, Beck enlisted two fierce young females from London - singer Rosie Bones and guitarist Carmen Vandenberg. Bones lends her powerful voice to nine of the 11 songs on LOUD HAILER, which is then rounded out by two signature Beck instrumentals.
STEVEN TYLER - We're All Somebody From Somewhere - Dot Records
“I headed down to Nashville last spring to start working on this project, wrote some kick ass songs with some of Music City’s finest songwriters and now we get to share them with the world on July 15,” said Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler. “Country music is the new rock 'n' roll. It’s not just about porches, dogs and kicking your boots up. It's a whole lot more. It's about being real.” A longtime fan of the genre, Steven Tyler's "powerful and raw" (Rolling Stone Country) voice first hit the country airwaves as "Love Is Your Name” reached #1 on the Billboard Country Streaming Songs chart. He followed with the anthemic “Red, White & You,” which Taste of Country called “an unapologetic slice of good-time commercial country, slickly produced and with a lyric aimed squarely at the work-hard, play-hard values of country’s core audience.”
GOOD CHARLOTTE - Youth Authority - MDDN LLC
After a four-year hiatus, Good Charlotte is back! "It would be easy to claim fatigue from the rash of pop-punk reunions that have sprouted up over the past few years. Some, like Fall Out Boy’s, focus on wholesale reinvention, while others are seemingly orchestrated to take advantage of a specific moment in time. In contrast, Good Charlotte’s feels unlike either. These guys have enough gold and platinum plaques to wallpaper their Hollywood homes, and enough money in the bank to never have to slog it out on a highly suspect 10-year anniversary tour. Don’t be mistaken: There’s a hearty dose of nostalgia here, but in the end, it feels less like a retread and more like a continuation—and a celebration—of the good old days." - Alternative Press
NEEDTOBREATHE - Hardlove - Atlantic
Co-produced by NEEDTOBREATHE and recorded at their very own Plantation Studios in Charleston, SC, Hardlove follows the band's blockbuster album, Rivers In the Wasteland, which made a stunning chart debut upon its 2014 release, topping Billboard's Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums charts while also entering the overall SoundScan/Billboard 200 at #3. What's more, the album's single, "Multiplied," earned NEEDTOBREATHE their first ever Grammy Award nomination.
SNOOP DOGG - Coolaid - Ent. One Music
Multi-platinum artist, actor and entertainment icon Snoop Dogg is at the forefront of popular culture with award-winning albums and songs, multiple films, lifestyle products, philanthropic efforts, and digital ventures, including his YouTube original series, GGN News. Snoop Dogg has sold over 35 million albums worldwide and received multiple GRAMMY nominations. Since 1993, he has released and collaborated with artists across all genres of music. Snoop defines hip-hop history. He's set records with his seminal album Doggstyle, which debuted at # 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold over 800,000 copies in the first week. Coolaid is Snoop s first hip-hop album in five years, and features collaborations with Jeremih, Swizz Beatz, Just Blaze, E-40 and more. The summer of Snoop will continue as the West Coast rapper is set to embark on MERRY JANE Presents: The High Road Summer Tour alongside Wiz Khalifa in 33 cities across North America.
DAVID NAIL - Fighter - MCA Nashville
MCA Nashville and GRAMMY-nominated recording artist David Nail releases his new album Fighter, which features 11 tracks overall including Nail's current hit single "Night's On Fire." Nail wrote or co-wrote seven songs for Fighter and teamed up with the same producer from his previous albums, Frank Liddell, for the project. Says Nail, "I truly believe this album, from top to bottom, is the first time I have been able to tell my story in real-time of where I am right now as an artist, a husband and a father. I wrote more songs for this album than I have for any of my other three so it's already more personal. Fighter speaks to my journey, my life and now to where I am personally and professionally."
WILLIAM S. BURROUGHS - Let Me Hang You - Ernest Jenning
Twenty years ago, William S. Burroughs was asked to record an audio version of his favorite parts of Naked Lunch. Hal Wilner and James Grauerholz produced several sessions and recruited a team of world class musicians to help. Famed for their Naked City involvement, Bill Frisell and Wayne Horowitz contributed their genius as well as Eyvind Kang just to name a few. The recordings were then abandoned and collecting dust on a musty shelf as forgotten as a piece of rancid ectoplasm on a peepshow floor. In 2015, Hal Willner decided to reopen this unfinished masterpiece and asked help from King Khan (a musician that he and Lou Reed admired and became fast friends with after witnessing two fiery performances by the King Khan & BBQ Show). Hal sent Khan all of the recordings and asked him to add his gris gris to this extremely perverted gumbo...and history was made and the scum began to rise! King Khan recruited M Lamar and the Frowning Clouds, a band of young Australian boys who have mastered the sixties Garage punk sound and that perhaps WSB would have also enjoyed for other purposes a long time ago. King Khan's new label appropriately named ''Khannibalism'' is proud to present the first LP/CD from this imprint...Let Me Hang You - a collection of depraved genius straight from the godfather of punk's very own mouth. If chills and thrills are what you seek, then look no further, here is the bible of freakdom recited by the pope of the underground....now, pull the chair from underneath you and see what happens...
