Reviews:

By Jefferson

What do you call this genre? Post-Shoegaze? More of that blurring the line between the avant and abstracted pop from the Type label in the form of the new Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, who you might know from his hypnotic explorations as 1/3 ofTarentel. Their darkly cosmic, massively long Ghetto Beats On The Surface Of The Sun was one of my favorite albums of 2007.

From Type: "On Love Is A Stream, Cantu, instead of focusing on tired weeping melancholy ballads, focuses solely on expansive, almost noise-ridden hopefulness. This is the kind of noise we fell in love with when My Bloody Valentine blew our ear drums performing Loveless, or the kind of harmonic excess we heard on hundredth listen to Catherine Wheel’s Ferment, but taken into deeper, more abstract realms." This results in the 'song' being abstracted into the hazy background territory of a haunting sonic apparition looming on the horizon of the tune. Spooky, beautiful stuff.
