R.I.P. Sky Saxon of The Seeds
POSTED BY Rod ON Thu Jun 25, 10:46 AM
Sky Saxon, founder of '60s garage-rock kings, The Seeds, passed away this morning in Austin after being hospitalized for an internal infection. Saxon's wife, Sabrina, posted news of his death on her Facebook page this morning. The Seeds formed in 1965 and hit the mark early with their first single, "Pushin' Too Hard," which became a bonafide garage-punk classic. Later efforts leaned heavily into psych-rock, but did not achieve commercial success and the Seeds disbanded in 1970. After the breakup Saxon joined a spiritual commune, and recorded a number of albums under different names in the late '70s. During the '80s he collaborated with members of the Dream Syndicate, Redd Kross, the Plimsouls, and Steppenwolf on a handful of releases. Saxon formed a new version of the Seeds in 2002 and toured the US and Europe for much of the decade.
