Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone

by Danny

Flashback Favorite! Not immediately likable, this album challenged what my idea of beautiful music was. I eventually realized that everything on it was calculated and purposeful, which in turn helped me to understand about having faith in art and artists. It's like the Walkmen wrote some songs, then folded them into themselves over and over, until they had stretched all the perfect moments into new songs. An entire song is a crescendo, a hook, or some beautiful place in between. The rewards have far outweighed the challenges this album initially offered me. Thank you, Walkmen.
