Grizzly Bear

Veckatimest

by Tim Hanken

I have no idea what Veckatimest means but I’m going with that it’s Polish for awesome. I saw these guys last summer at the All Points West festival and thought that the new tracks they played were phenomenal and this record has not let me down. Much more grandiose than Yellow House or the Friend EP, this record has Grizzly Bear layering in guitar parts in a much more rock and roll fashion than their previous works. Although they seem to have embraced a bit more distortion and dare I say jamming tendencies, the haunting vocals and the intimacy that made Yellow House and Friend great are still there. This is the best record I’ve heard so far in 2009.
