|Hey, I'm Just Like You [LP]
Twenty years into their career, Tegan and Sara have recorded a new album that is based on the first songs they ever wrote. Hey, I’m Just Like You – their ninth studio album overall and first since 2016’s Love You to Death – will be released on September 27 on Sire.
Hey, I’m Just Like You is a return to Tegan and Sara’s rock and punk roots, with a punch of pop production. Recorded in Vancouver, Canada in April and May 2019, the album recasts the remarkable innate songwriting talents both possessed as teenagers, and allows these previously unreleased songs to benefit from the studio expertise they have gained in the past two decades – a period that has seen them release eight studio albums, earning seven Gold certifications and one Double Platinum certification in the process. Defiant and melodramatic, the songs capture the exultation and grief of first loves, first losses, ecstatic kiss-offs, and psychedelic tributes to friendship.

|In The Morse Code Of Brake Lights [LP]
What happens when a nation that was born to run, and to rev engines into the wild frontier, runs into the full stop that is our current social and political climate? The answer, my friend, is somewhere “In the Morse Code of Brake Lights,” as The New Pornographers would have it on their eighth album. There’s a deep climatic unease running through these 11 tracks that’s matched only by the sheer musical glee with which the band addresses the prevailing mood of the moment. It’s an album in which foreboding and bliss somehow go hand in hand—mixing founder A.C. Newman’s nearly symphonic levels of pop arrangement and harmony with a careening quality that feels unsafe at any speed (to quote the famous Ralph Nader phrase that the opening track also borrows).

Like a personal fantasy, Tove Lo invites you close enough to see, hear, and feel the moment just before it evaporates back into the ether once more. In 2018, she officially relocated to Los Angeles and dove headfirst into creating her fourth full-length, Sunshine Kitty. It represented a new season for Tove marked by a reclamation of confidence, hard-earned wisdom, more time, and a nascent romance. It starts with the confident and catchy single “Glad He’s Gone.”
|Blue World [LP]
In 1964, the National Film Board of Canada asked John Coltrane to record the soundtrack for a French-language film titled “Le chat dans le sac” (“The Cat in the Bag”). In June of that year, Coltrane’s ‘Classic Quartet’ entered Rudy Van Gelder’s studio and recorded five previously-recorded Coltrane originals. For many years, viewers of the film who recognized the music thought that they were listening to the original recordings, though in fact they were new and had never been heard.
|Whiskey Myers [LP]
Genre-bending band Whiskey Myers have played nearly 2,000 live shows since their emergence in 2008 and have sold out more than 115 headlining shows in the last year alone. As Esquire proclaims, "Whiskey Myers are the real damn deal." USA Today describes the band led by frontman Cody Cannon as "a riff-heavy blend of Southern rock and gritty country that has earned comparisons to the Allman Brothers Band and Led Zeppelin," with Rolling Stone noting "it's the seminal combination of twang and crunchy rock & roll guitars that hits a perfect sweet spot." Their most recent album, Mud, reached No. 1 on the iTunes country chart with single "Stone" hitting Top 10 all genre and their fifth studio album, which they self-produced for the first time, is set for release this fall. Whiskey Myers was featured in Paramount Network's new Kevin Costner hit show "Yellowstone" with synced songs throughout season one as well as an appearance by the band in episode four as part of the storyline, with the band set to return with additional synced songs in season two.

|Heartache Medication [LP]
Platinum-selling artist Jon Pardi announced his highly-anticipated new album, tour and single titled Heartache Medication. Set for release on September 27, Pardi's upcoming album, Heartache Medication, includes the album's lead single and title track Co-written by Pardi, Barry Dean and Natalie Hemby, Pardi revealed the new single showcases a taste of what is to come on the next record exclusively to the Associated Press, noting the songs lift you up. They put you in a higher place. "The single 'Heartache Medication' has an 80's George Strait 'Fool Hearted Memory' feel to it, and is something people can dance to, said Pardi. That's something I really wanted for this album. There really are no sad songs on this record-it covers a range of subjects, but is ultimately about moving on, and having a good time. Recognized for his "state-of-the-art blend of traditional instrumentation and progressive grooves that points to country's future (Rolling Stone) and as a leader among a growing number of artists bringing back fiddle, steel and twang while still finding ways to freshen the sound (People), Pardi again serves as a co-producer on the new album, Heartache Medication. Heartache Medication is the follow up to Pardi's co-produced Platinum-selling breakthrough #1 album California Sunrise, which featured Multi-Platinum, chart-topping hits including Dirt on My Boots, Head Over Boots, Heartache on the Dancefloor and Night Shift." The CMA and ACM Award-winner also revealed plans for his HEARTACHE MEDICATION TOUR
|Dead Man's Pop [4CD/1LP]
|Wire Mountain [LP]
Wire Mountain is Will Johnson's 6th solo album and sits atop a back catalog that includes Centro-matic, South San Gabriel, Marie/Lepanto, and Molina Johnson. When he's not writing and recording his own projects he's often contributing to others, like co-producing Austin Lucas' Immortal Americans, or playing drums in Strand of Oaks. Wire Mountain is Johnson's second album recorded with Britton Beisenherz at his Austin studio Ramble Creek Recording and together they further develop new palettes and textures for Johnson's songs, this time enlisting fellow Austinites Thor Harris (of Swans and Thor & Friends) and minimalist folk-duo Little Mazarn to help shape and define them. Britton also plays on the album, along with Austin legend Jon Dee Graham. "Cornelius" begins with a squall of feedback before giving way to acoustic guitars and an anthemic chorus that plunges into a dizzying electric guitar solo. "A Solitary Slip" is fragile folk, a lilting lullaby of finger-picked guitar, plucked banjo, and single piano notes with Little Mazarn's Lindsey Verrill mirroring Johnson's words. The last track is a hopeful instrumental, a calm before the next thing. "(You Were) Just Barely You."
|Stars Are The Light [LP]
Stars Are the Light, the luminous seventh album by the American psych explorers Moon Duo, marks a progression into significantly new territory. From a preoccupation with the transcendental and occult that informed Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada's guitar-driven psych rock, and reached it's apotheosis in the acclaimed Occult Architecture diptych, Stars Are the Light sees the band synthesize the abstract and metaphysical with the embodied and terrestrial. Says Yamada: "We have changed, the nature of our collaboration has changed, the world has changed, and we wanted the new music to reflect that." Branching out from Occult Architecture Vol. 2, the album has a sonic physicality that is at once propulsive and undulating; it puts dance at the heart of an expansive nexus that connects the body to the stars. These are songs about embodied human experience - love, change, misunderstanding, internal struggle, joy, misery, alienation, discord, harmony, celebration - rendered as a kind of dance of the self, both in relation to other selves and to the eternal dance of the cosmos. Taking disco as it's groove-oriented departure point, Stars Are the Light shimmers with elements of '70s funk and '90s rave. Johnson's signature guitar sound is at it's most languid and refined, while Yamada's synths and oneiric vocals are foregrounded to create a spacious percussiveness that invites the body to move with it's mesmeric rhythms. With Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3, Spectrum) at the mixing desk in Portugal's Serra de Sintra, (known to the Romans as "The Mountains of the Moon") the area's lush landscape and powerful lunar energies exerted a strong influence on the vibe and sonic texture of the album. On embracing disco as an inspiration, Yamada says, "It's something we hadn't referenced in our music before, but it's core concepts really align with what we were circling around as we made the album. Disco is dance music, first and foremost, and we were digging our way into the idea of this endless dance of bodies in nature. We were also very inspired by the space and community of a disco - a space of free self-expression through dance, fashion, and mode of being; where everyone was welcome, diversity was celebrated, and identity could be fluid; where the life force that animates each of us differently could flower."

Desert Dove is the new album from Michaela Anne and her first on Yep Roc Records. It was recorded in LA and produced by Sam Outlaw and Kelly Winrich (Delta Spirit). Michaela has been lauded for her timeless voice and narrative depth and this record takes that to the next level. The songwriting is confessional and unforgettable without being saccharin or self-indulgent; the tracks call to mind Michaela's diverse influences - everything from Stevie Nick's powerful voice and Fleetwood Mac's vibey arrangements to the Dixie Chick's incredible balance of conviction and catchiness - all showcasing her stellar voice and distinct vision.
|A Loveless Sunken Sun [LP]
Since moving to New York, Corey King has focused on being adaptable in many musical environments without sacrificing his musical integrity. He has had the opportunities to perform/record with notable artists such as Bonobo, Esperanza Spalding, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Glen Hansard, Mos Def, Gil-Scott Heron, D.J. Premiere, ATrak, Doc Daneeka, Nick Hook, José James, Bilal, Mary J. Blige, Hercules and Love Affair, Mark Ronson, Maria Daulne (Zap Mama), Lauryn Hill. Whereas his 2016 outing Lashes dabbled more with rock and indie influences, A Loveless Sunken Sun manifests the breadth of King’s influences; a picturesque world that is equal parts Electronic, Krautrock and Afrobeat. There is a feeling of rootless-ness in this record as King processes gratitude, wonder, and sorrow related to the demands of travel, new responsibilities, and loss of his grandmother. This atmospheric and richly impressionistic work offers a glimpse of King’s moody and rewarding experience of life. The release will be available on standard weight, black vinyl.

|In Cauda Venenum [2LP English Version]
Sweden’s Opeth are preparing to release their most important record to date with “In Cauda Venenum”. Certainly, fans and critics will have their opinion, but few records in the Swedes’ oeuvre are as engaging, delicate, panoramic, intense, and musical as Opeth’s lucky thirteenth. Sporting a clever Travis Smith cover—replete with inside jokes and a nod to King Diamond—a masterful Park Studios (The Hellacopters, Graveyard) production, Opeth’s usual five-star musicianship, and lyrics entirely in Swedish, “In Cauda Venenum” raises the bar markedly. While a record in Swedish is a first—there’s also an English version—for frontman and founding member Mikael Åkerfeldt, the 10 songs on offer feel and sound completely natural. As if years of listening to and being a fan of Swedish rock and hard rock has paid off. In a way, Opeth have come home. But the Swedish lyrics of the primary edition of “In Cauda Venenum” shouldn’t distract from the quality presented in Opeth’s new songs, the lot of which sneak up and take control after repeated listens. “In Cauda Venenum” is like that, tricky in its complicated simplicity, resourceful in its ability to charm with delightful if wistful melodies. Really, it’s just Opeth being Opeth.
|Necrophaze [Mint/Purple Haze LP]
The Duke of Spook has returned once more from beyond the grave to reveal the “NECROPHAZE!” This latest, full length offering from the ghouls of WEDNESDAY 13 will be available on September 27th, 2019 via Nuclear Blast Records. Heavily influenced by the real life night terror occurrences of Wednesday himself, historical serial killers, and a slew of 80’s horror films, the ideas behind NECROPHAZE are bizarrely familiar, frightening, and a hell of a lot of fun. Being a collector of both media and toys, Wednesday 13 was inspired by a craving for variety to create dual album artwork for this release. The covers showcase either end of the horror spectrum with a “Creepshow” comic book vibe for the LP artwork, and the eeriness of something akin to John Carpenter’s “The Fog” adorning the CD.

|One True Pairing [LP]
Tom Fleming, former Wild Beasts songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist is back with a new project, One True Pairing. This idea and the expanding themes – male identity, class, taste – are the cornerstones of One True Pairing. "I wanted to write about the real world, I didn't want it to be an artistic, poised, tasteful record," says Tom Fleming of his first solo album, released under the name One True Pairing; "I wanted this to be a rock album, a protest vote against the field of good taste. One True Pairing is a name taken from internet fan fiction, where you write the perfect relationship you always wished existed. The idea of Prince Charming and Helpless Princess living happily after is no fun at all.” The former Wild Beasts songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist is back with a self-titled debut that’s shaped by class frustration and self-despair. In its 11 songs of discordant guitar and aggressive synth Fleming channels his discontent with Britain in 2019 and a “feeling of directionless rage and cheatedness which hasn't gone away." His musical touchstones were Bruce Springsteen, Don Henley, Tom Petty and Def Leppard - "big rock songs, but as it went on it started to be Depeche Mode and noisier stuff, along with Swans and Bonnie Prince Billy and the kids making hip hop, using a kick drum, a high hat and that's it - it's production, it's electronic music, but it's as small as you can make it.” This seething blend of difficult emotions is explored in One True Pairing’s palette of taut and clipped guitar that flickers between New Wave and even at times 80s MOR titans Dire Straits, looming synths, trickling melodies. Above it all Fleming’s voice, ranging from haunting despair to croon like a Yorkshire Scott Walker, is at its best of his career, giving life to “the angry northern Springsteen record that I'd always wanted to make.” He says that “I want to be obvious in what I'm saying - it's neo-heartland rock".

|The Greatest Hits [3LP]
Celebrating three decades of music, Thunder will release a 28 track album entitled simply ‘The Greatest Hits’ .Thirty years into their career, the time feels right to look back on what’s been done, taking stock of some fantastic work, but keeping one eye on the horizon and what is yet to come. ‘The Greatest Hits’ is a comprehensive, cohesive and career-spanning collection, taking in material from every single album since the debut that propelled them onto the world stage, 1990’s ‘Backstreet Symphony’ which hit number 21 in the Charts. That first salvo was followed by ‘Laughing On Judgement Day’ which hit No. 2 in 1992, and then ‘Behind Closed Doors’ which was another Top 5 hit in 1995. ‘Greatest Hits’ includes material taken from releases right up till 2017’s ‘Rip It Up’, which hit No.3 in the Charts, and 2019’s ‘Please Remain Seated’. In fact, the last three Thunder albums – ‘Wonder Days’, ‘Rip It Up’ and ‘Please Remain Seated’ have all enjoyed UK Top Ten status in the Album Chart. The tracks chosen for ‘The Greatest Hits’ shows perfectly the arc of evolution that the band has travelled over three decades, developing, challenging themselves and always moving on: without ever losing the core elements that make them special.

Having followed the fascinating career of Beth Hart for a quarter-century, we've learned not to rule anything out - so long as it's real. And now, with War In My Mind, this songwriter has made a record that bares her soul, wears her heart on her sleeve, and makes no apology for it. |Weeping Icon [LP]
Listening to Weeping Icon's debut album is to enter a dim catacomb of psychical catharsis. Urgent yet calculated riffs rip through a thunderous pummel of percussion, an anomalous blend of punk and psychedelic drumming carries the songs with an atmosphere of organized chaos.. Lyrically they are both serious and sarcastic, trading off vocalists to confront issues central to a generation, dosing listeners with a controlled sense of horror and humor like flavors in a dish. The band's debut record 'Weeping Icon' is a collection of 7 songs that archive the metamorphosis into heavier and more provocative territories. In keeping with their live performance, a sequence of dystopian sound interludes complete the album, serving as guided meditations between the candid subversive fury of the main tracks. Recorded and mixed by Uniform's Ben Greenberg and mastered by Jonathan Schenke in New York City.

|Abstractions of Reality Past and Incredible Feathers [LP]
"Binker Golding is a musician of many talents - one half of London trailblazers Binker and Moses, skilled composer, educator at Tomorrow's Warriors, frequent collaborator with top musicians from the London jazz scene one of the most impactful saxophonists of our times. His new album 'Abstractions of Reality Past and Incredible Feathers' was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, mixed by the legendary James Farber (Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano, Brad Mehldau), and mastered and cut at Gearbox Records. The record features a distinctive quartet with Joe Armon-Jones on piano, Daniel Casimir on double bass, and Sam Jones on drums Golding's quartet project promises to make waves as it maps a path between the more through-composed jazz fusion of previous decades and the hip hop/broken beat-influenced sound of the contemporary London jazz scene. Is Binker Golding the new Sonny Rollins? The new Coltrane? Or both?' - MOJO 'Like those saxophone colossi whose respective roots lay in calypso and roadhouse R&B, Binker opts to shake hips first, stroke beards second.' - Q 'One of the most edge-of-your-seat, high impact, kick-out-the-jams tenor saxophone-led bands in the recorded history of British jazz.' - All About Jazz 'It's rare to find such raw and honest jazz concepts coming from the younger generation, but it's clear these guys live this music' - WAX POETICS

|Songs Of Our Mothers [LP]
Afghan singer Elaha Soroor and award-winning duo Kefaya (Al MacSween & Giuliano Modarelli) join forces for Songs Of Our Mothers. This mighty and mezmerising new album, is a collection of folk songs traditionally performed by Afghan women. It draws on Elaha's own experience of fleeing Afghanistan, and the struggles faced by many other female artists. The US and Western-backed regimes that came to dominate Afghanistan in the latter part of the 20th century created a climate of heightened patriarchal oppression and persecution of women. These songs, filtered through a myriad of forms, from spiritual jazz and dub to Indian classical music and electronica, tell the stories of joy, pain and resilience, passed from mother to daughter in times of hardship and oppression while also celebrating femininity, sensuality and the spirit of resistance.
