Review: Dwight Yoakam - "Population Me"
He might feel like he’s out there by his lonesome, but folks stand up and be counted, this is one of his best ever! Released in 2003 on his own label, Dwight took it upon himself to do it his way. His way truly is the highway. He adds pedal steel, banjo, and just about everything that makes you smile. Never thought of him as an arranger, but this is song structure at its finest. Take a drive down the 101, hit Bakersfield and stop in West Texas and hang out for awhile. You may not come back. Small label meant small sales. Soon enough, it will not only be considered one of his best, but one of the finest honky tonk records of the decade.
