Review: Rodriguez - "Cold Fact"
Rodriguez recently played at the Showbox at the Market for Seattle label Light in the Attic’s 10-year anniversary show, and is riding on an explosive resurgence of his musical career. From Detroit, Rodriguez put out two albums in the early 1970s but quickly fell into obscurity until his music made its way to South Africa in the 1990s and became an anthem of the Apartheid resistance, as is outlined in the recent documentary about Rodriguez and his renewed musical career, Searching for Sugarman. He spins tales and commentary of inner city life of 1970s Detroit, with memorable hooks in a folk-rock style reminiscent of early Bob Dylan. Definitely an album I won’t ever get enough of.
