Win Tickets To 20th Anniversary Screening Of "HYPE!" + Rare Poster!
Dang, has it really been 20 years since Doug Pray's killer documentary of the Seattle music scene, Hype!, was released? Yep, it sure has, and to mark the occasion, a special 20th anniversary screening will take place on September 25th, 7pm, at the SIFF Egyptian Theater. Featuring live performances from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, and many more, Hype! uses concert footage and interviews to trace the movement from tiny basement practice spaces to Nirvana's staggering success. Look for the remastered collector's edition DVD/Blu-Ray of Hype! coming at ya on 9/29!
Director Doug Pray will be in attendance at the screening and there will be a post-screening Q&A with Pray, Mark Arm (Mudhoney), Jack Endino (producer), Charles Peterson (photographer), Steve Fisk (producer), Lulu Gargiulo (Fastbacks), and Kurt Bloch (Fastbacks). There will also be a pre-show performance by the Schmidtheads, a spin-off of legendary late ‘80s proto-grunge band The Thrown Ups.
We're giving away several pairs of tickets to Monday's screening, and each of our winners will also receive a limited edition, handmade screen-printed Hype! poster (pictured below) that Sub Pop made for Sundance Film Festival in 1996, with an image by Charles Peterson of Mark Arm playing guitar. These posters are from Doug Pray's personal collection, and are extremely rare. Enter to win by e-mailing us with the subject line "HYPE!" and please include first & last name with entry. We'll draw winners this Friday (9/22).
