After thirty years, the world might just be ready for Martin Rev. As one-halfof the NYC synth-punk duo Suicide, he and vocalist Alan Vega created a uniquelydystopic vision of the future that now seems eerily prescient in the aftermathof September 11th. This reissue of Rev's 1979 debut shows a much more accessibleside to Rev's steely mnemonic synth patterns, and as such might providemore of an escape from the world's harsh realities. The lone vocal track"Baby Oh Baby" immediately brings to mind Rev's Suicide work, but the rest of these tracks are—dare I say it?— much lighter in tonethan anything you might expect from the man behind "Frankie Teardrop."By all means, avoid the Casiotone-on-auto-50s-rock turd "Daydreams,"but be prepared to meet a kinder, gentler Rev on this LP. You'll see he'snot such a bad guy after all.
